The Midway

  • Location
    San Francisco, CA
    Year
  • 2016

The Midway is an event space and cultural center in an existing warehouse in the Dogpatch neighborhood at 900 Marin Street in San Francisco. The program for the 30,000 sf space is rather complex and consists of a bar / lounge, a concert / event space, a teaching kitchen, a café / restaurant and spaces for artists.

Nottoscale reconfigured the exterior in order to accommodate the complex egress requirements, re-designed the main entries and divided the space in two by inserting a central hallway that runs through the entire building, providing a central multipurpose space that serves as a functional spine for the different functions in the building. The design of the spaces is kept neutral and utilitarian in order to provide a neutral canvas for the rotating art installations and to allow the building to change with its occupants.
