Floating Donut House

The Floating Donut House is a speculative prototype by nottoscale in which we wanted to further pursue our research about elevated structures.

The Donut House is basically a long rectangle with an interior courtyard that rests on 8′-0″ high pillars and is being accessed by a stair that leads straight into the core of the home. It measures 1,542 sf, has three bedrooms, a large living room/dining room, two studies, a kid’s room, closets and two guest toilets. The elevated courtyard is, together with the two large openings at either end of the building and skylights within the rooms, the main source of day-lighting and also the beginning point of a circular hallway that connects all spaces of the building.

The structure is elevated for several reasons – one is to minimize the sealed footprint of the home while allowing easy access to the underside and utilities of the house, another reason is the natural cooling
